Kerala has set another example of religious harmony with a temple in Kerala setting up a super speciality centre to provide free dialysis treatment to kidney patients irrespective of their caste, religion or creed. Sree Kadampuzha Bhagavathy Temple in Malappuram under Malabar Devaswom Board has started the super speciality dialysis centre for providing treatment to kidney patients belonging to economically weaker sections.
“By setting up such a free treatment facility, the temple aims to serve fellow human beings. This is a major achievement for the temple. The temple puts across a message that to service to humanity is service to God,” said Malabar Devaswom Board president M R Murali.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will officially inaugurate the centre on May 16. The temple administration has completed the construction of the facility with the support of the fund donated by the believers. “The centre can treat 100 patients in a day. In the due course of time, we are planning to transform the centre into a speciality hospital offering free kidney transplants,” Murali added.
The idea of setting up such a centre came up following the decision to expand the facilities of a small, totally free charitable hospital which has been functioning in the temple premises since 1988. “The decision to set up the free dialysis centre was taken when the temple administration considered expanding the functioning of the hospital. As the number of kidney patients have been increasing and dialysis becoming unaffordable to many, the temple decided to come out with a solution to it,” said a temple administrative officer.
The long term objective of Kadampuzha Devaswom is to develop the centre into a Nephrology Research Centre and a hospital of international standards to offer treatment to people.
