By opening a state-of-the-art organ transplant facility, Ernakulam General Hospital has become a beacon of hope for thousands of patients awaiting organ transplant surgeries. Already, enquiries have started to pour in from patients after the hospital got all the necessary approval to conduct the transplant surgeries.
The launch of cutting-edge organ transplant facility has brought newfound optimism and life-saving opportunities to patients from across the state. Over the years, Ernakulam Government General Hospital has grown exponentially in terms of both infrastructure and expertise. “The facility at the General Hospital is a big relief to patients in Ernakulam and other neighbouring districts who often had to rely heavily on private hospitals enduring financial hardships. Now, they can receive top-notch medical care at a government hospital,” said a senior officer of the state health department.
The hospital’s success has not only attracted patients but also garnered recognition from organisations nationwide. It has become a model for healthcare transformation in the public health sector. As per a Times of India report, the hospital has received more than 300 enquiries till Friday night. The hospital will begin kidney transplant surgeries after evaluating the registration of the patients who have donors from matching blood relations.
The report quotes a hospital source who says that “Though some people inquire about arranging donors, we are not doing that. Initially only one surgery will be carried out in a week since we have the service of only one urologist.”
The transplant surgeries are expected to begin within the next two weeks and Kerala State Organ Tissue Transplant Organisation has given certification to the hospital for conducting the surgery for five years.
