Attention women travellers to Kerala! Whether you are travelling in a group or solo, keep all your safety concerns aside. In a first-of-its-kind initiative in India, Kerala Tourism Department has launched a woman-friendly tourism project under its Responsible Tourism Mission to ensure that women tourists to the state are safe and they get proper assistance for all their needs.
Tourism officials said the government has rolled out the network to make Kerala a woman-friendly travel destination. Those woman who want to be part of the project and become a member of the network to offer support services to the women tourists should register with the tourism department.
A woman-friendly tourism network will be formed as part of the project by coordinating with various other woman-friendly tourism initiatives. The project will create a community in which women will control and operate all the components such as accommodation, food, travel and guide required for the safe tourism network. The project will be implemented by including safe and hygienic tourism destinations exclusively for women.
“Tour packages will be specifically designed for women tourists including the safe and hygienic tourism destinations. Through this project, Kerala will become the safest destination for women tourists,” said a senior tourism department officer.
The project will ensure that the tourist destinations in the state meet the needs of women tourists. As part of the project, women selected in all districts will be trained by Responsible Tourism Mission to work in various fields such as tour coordinators, community tour leaders, auto/taxi drivers and homestay operators.
