No more long queues at government hospitals in Kerala for Outpatient (OP) tickets. In a major move aimed at providing hassle-free service to patients, Kerala has rolled out an app for people to book OP tickets for doctor consultation using their UHID or Aadhaar number.

MeHealth mobile application launched by the Department of Health as part of the eHealth project will enable patients to book Outpatient (OP) tickets for doctor consultation at government hospitals. A top health department official said the app will help in eliminating long queues at hospital OP ticket counters.

According to an official document, the M-eHealth app offers several key features, including the ability to check the availability of doctors on the selected booking day, access to medical history, lab test results, and prescriptions, and an online payment facility for OP ticket charges at the time of booking. “The app is available across 676 healthcare institutions, including 17 Medical Colleges, 30 Taluk Hospitals, and 499 Primary Health Centres. District-wise service availability includes 108 hospitals in Thiruvananthapuram, 75 in Ernakulam, and 72 in Thrissur,” the document said.

The app supports a QR code scanning and digital token system, where patients can scan the QR code at the healthcare facility to receive a consultation token number. At the time of token generation, all applicable OP charges can be paid online, ensuring a seamless experience. “There will be a provision for online payment of all the services. eHealth-enabled healthcare institutions will also be equipped with ePOS machines for billing and payments,” the official said.

“By integrating digital tools like QR code-based check-ins and ePOS machines, we are ensuring that patients spend less time in hospital queues and more time receiving medical care,” the official added.

The MeHealth initiative aligns with the broader eHealth mission to modernise public healthcare infrastructure and make it more accessible to citizens. The MeHealth app is available for download on the Google Play Store.
