Kerala is rolling out a project where ration supplies from ration shops will be delivered at the homes of people, who are not able to visit ration shops including bedridden patients, with the support of local autorickshaw drivers.

As per the state government’s decision, the project will be implemented in a phased manner in the state starting from Thrissur district. Officials of the Civil Supplies Department said the project titled ‘Oppam’ will ensure that people who are bed-ridden get the ration at their door step.

“The project will ensure that the ration reaches the houses of beneficiaries before the 10th of every month. Eligible families will be identified and make sure that they get ration regularly. The beneficiaries will not have to bear any extra financial burden on account of the scheme,” the officers said. According to an official statement, the project will be implemented on the lines of the scheme supplying ration directly to tribal settlements.

Manual transactions will be done for efficient implementation of the project. Receipts of ration card-holders will be recorded in the manual register before providing ration items to the beneficiary. Once the ration is delivered, the details will be recorded in the e-PoS machines under the supervision of the rationing inspector. “Once the project is successfully implemented in Thrissur, it will be extended to other districts in a phased manner,” the officials said.
