Sun is shining bright over Kerala and so does the state’s solar energy sector. Kerala has been witnessing more households installing roof-top solar power units in the last few years.
As per the latest data with Kerala government, a total of 24,811 roof-top solar power units have been commissioned in the state under different schemes in the last three years with a total production capacity of 103. 83 MW. “Initially, there weren’t many takers for the roof top solar power project for households. But with KSEB and ANERT launching various campaigns to promote it, people started coming forward,” said a senior KSEB officer.
The data presented by Minister for Power and Energy K Krishnankutty recently in the assembly shows that while 1814 rooftop solar power units have been commissioned in the state under non-subsidy scheme, there were 22125 roof top domestic solar power units with a total production capacity of 81.65 MW commissioned so far under the domestic subsidy scheme.
The minister also said the roof top solar power project under ANERT has also received tremendous response from the public with 5800 applications for generating 22 MW. “Of the 5800 applications, works on 3871 projects are progressing while 872 projects have already been installed generating power of 3.5 MW,” he added.
