Kerala will soon have 20 more small IT Parks with the government expediting the procedures for purchasing land along the National Highway 66 for setting up these parks. As per the details with the government, these parks will be set up to develop four IT corridors in the state spanning from Thiruvananthapuram to Kannur.
While the first corridor will be developed from Thiruvananthapuram to Kollam, the second will be Ernakulam to Koratty, the third from Ernakulam to Cherthala and the fourth from Kozhikode to Kannur. The government will purchase 14 to 25 acres of land from private parties in these corridors for setting up the satellite IT parks.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, in a recent statement in the assembly, said the government has already appointed Kerala State Information Technology Infrastructure Limited (KSITIL) Managing Director as the requisitioning authority to purchase the land required for setting up these parks. “A committee comprising members of IT Parks and KSITIL has also been set up to identify the land for purchase,” he said.
Officials said the government has approved the four IT corridor projects under the 5G leadership package announced in the 2022-23 budget. The government is also in the process of finalising a scheme called “Ignite” which will offer government sponsored internship programmes to young IT students in major IT companies. A Centre of Excellence in Future Technology will also be set up for the benefit of students in the IT sector.
