Inter-caste or inter-faith couples who recently got married and are facing financial difficulties can get a financial assistance from Kerala government. The government has called for fresh applications for offering financial assistance of Rs 30,000 to couples with inter-caste or inter-faith marriages who face financial difficulties.
The couples who recently got married should register their details at suneethi.sjd.kerala.gov.in for applying for the scheme. Officials said the government has decided to continue with the scheme after they cleared the pending payment of the assistance fund to the earlier applicants. “We cleared payment to over 4000 such couples who applied for the scheme,” said an officer.
Earlier, the Kerala government has sanctioned Rs12.51 crore for clearing the payment to the applicants. The scheme fund is provided by the Social Justice department and passed on to the beneficiaries through block panchayats, municipalities and municipal corporations. In the 2021-22 fiscal, the department had sanctioned Rs 1.45 crore for distribution of arrears under the scheme.
“We are getting a lot of applications under the scheme from various districts. The government has allocated an additional fund to settle the arrears this year also,” the officers added.
