Annie Sebastian, 68, of Kathrikadavu in Kochi is on cloud nine as she could fulfil her childhood dream of learning classical dance. She even performed in front of a packed audience at a public function along with her granddaughter and daughter-in-law.
Her real inspiration is her nine-year-old granddaughter Ann Rose Harris with whom she used to frequent a dance school. “I wanted to learn dance in my childhood. But never had an opportunity. But after I started taking my granddaughter to dance class, I expressed my desire to learn it along with my granddaughter. They motivated me and here I am now,” said Annie Sebastian, who retired as a Hindi teacher from a government school.
“I could do it because of my daughter-in-law Faxy Philomina Harris. She supported me when I told her my desire to learn dance at this age,” says Annie, who was very much thrilled to perform on the stage.
“It wasn’t easy learning dance at this age. But my family encouraged me. Moreover, it was fun to learn to dance with my daughters. I enjoy every moment of it. I feel blessed and lucky to learn and perform along with my granddaughter,” she added.
Annie started learning dance in 2015 and she had her debut performance of Mohiniyattam along with her granddaughter and daughter-in-law in 2017. “I want to learn more dance forms like Kuchipudi. I feel more energised when I perform,” she added.
