This first standard student of Rajagiri Christu Jayanthi Public School in Kakkanad, Ernakulam has surprised the world as she pulled off dazzling arithmetic feats in an international online abacus competition.
Out of 20,603 students who took part from 84 countries, Diyaah Mariam Jithu emerged champion in Q2 category in the 9th international online abacus competition “Brainobrain fest 2023” held on January 28, 2023.
Her parents — Jithu N Kurias & Merin Sumon — are thrilled as their daughter has won international recognition for her mental arithmetic skills. “We are really happy for her. It’s a recognition for her hard work,” they said.
Diyaah has been undergoing Q2 level training for nearly one year both online and offline before the final contest. It was her intense training that helped her stay focused and confident in the competition.
She is so happy participating in the international competition and is now even more excited to continue learning abacus. She participated in the contest representing Ernakulam district, Kacheripady centre of BrainObrain. For the last one year, she has been spending hours a day practicing on the abacus. She is the granddaughter of Kurias N Chacko and Kumary Simon.
“Her ambition is to become a pilot. We pray that she achieves her dream. We will do our best to extend all our support to her,” said her proud grandfather Kurias N Chacko.
