Residents of Malappuram town in Kerala are into a heartwarming mission by coming together for a movement to donate their eyes, organs and bodies.

The residents of three wards mainly Cherattukuzhi in Malappuram municipality with the support of a local organisation called Punarjanani Swanthanavedhi have been conducting massive campaigns about the importance of donating eyes, organs and body for the last couple of years. Though the initiative was first started by Punarjanani Swanthanavedhi, the residents joined the movement to ensure that the awareness programme reached the entire people of the three wards and more become part of this noble cause.

“We have been getting tremendous support from the residents. Over 200 residents have pledged to donate their eyes while 60 residents have pledged to donate their body for study purposes after their death. Initially, it wasn’t easy to convince people but with more people coming forward to support our cause, we are getting good response,” said Punarjanani Swanthanavedhi secretary Vinod Kallidumbil who was also a former councillor of Malappuram Municipality.

It gives us immense satisfaction to know that we can help someone even after our death,” said Ramani K T, councillor of Cherattukuzhi. “Our campaign will inspire others to come forward and pledge their organs too,” she added. There are approximately 6000 residents in these three wards.

In fact, the residents have set an inspiring example of how a small community can come together to make a big difference in the world.
