For Jeemon Antony, a senior civil police officer with Kerala Police, obstacles on the track are not uncommon after he took up dirt bike racing chasing his passion. However, his biggest challenge came off the track when a severe leg injury in 2020 threatened to permanently sideline his passion for racing. A debilitating leg condition necessitated an open surgery, during which two titanium rods were implanted into his body.
But Jeemon was not ready to give up and decided to confront the challenges head-on.
Through rigorous physical training and an unwaveringly optimistic outlook, he defied the odds and returned to the competitive circuit. His determination reached its zenith when he participated in the MRF MOGRIP’s Indore National Rally Championship in 2021.
Since then, this 41-year-old police officer of Kochi City Police, hasn’t looked back. He has won many titles in the last two years and feels happy to have overcome the biggest challenge in his life. “The leg injury totally debased my plans. The doctors only suggested minimal movements and said it won’t be easy to even lift a bucket of water. But I wasn’t ready to give up my dreams. I fought hard and returned to racing” Jeemon, who hails from Manjummel in Kochi, told “Open Digest.”
On his return to circuit after overcoming the injury, Jeemon competed in the Himalayan Rally, one of the hardest adventerous rally in India, and finished fifth. In 2022, he became the National Champion in the Bullet category of the Indian National Rally championship.
As the only police officer from India competing as a professional dirt bike racer, Jeemon’s return to the racing track overcoming injury is an inspiration, showcasing that with tenacity and unwavering passion, one can overcome the most formidable hurdles both on and off the racing tracks.
