As more cases of pelvic dysfunction are being reported in the state and many remain undiagnosed, Amrita Hospital in Kochi has opened a multidisciplinary pelvic dysfunction clinic to address patients’ concerns and provide state-of-the-art treatment.
The exclusive clinic for pelvic dysfunction has been opened as patients consult doctors from different specialities and sometimes go through multiple hospitals without much relief.
Dr Anand Kumar, Head of the Department of Neurology launched the clinic in the presence of Prof Jalesh Panicker, Head of the Department of Uroneurology, University College London. Patients who report to outpatient departments of Neurology, Urology or Gastroenterology with primary symptoms, will only be referred to the clinic which offers services of experts – Dr Kannar Nair from Urology,
Dr Shine Sadasivan from Gastroenterology, Dr Ravi Sankaran from Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Dr Saraf Udit from Neurology.
Pelvic dysfunction combines bowel, bladder and sexual dysfunction. An official release from Amrita Hospital said many patients with pelvic dysfunction remain undiagnosed and do not get appropriate treatment. “It significantly affects a patient’s quality of life. So there is a need for a dedicated service to address the sufferings of such patients,” the release added.
