A young tribal girl from Attappady in Kerala is breaking all social taboos of her highly conservative community to pursue a career in modelling and entertainment industry. In fact, 17-year-old Anu Prashobhini of Irula tribe broke the community restrictions when she contested a fitness fashion model event in 2021 and became the first tribal girl to win a title.
With the support of her father Palaniswamy, a forest department staff and mother Shobha, Anu Prashobhini, who is doing her plus two in bio-science, is actively into vlogging to reach out to the world and make a mark for herself.
“I am really happy that I could free myself from the community restrictions. I have taken a path which no other girl from our community has chosen to travel. In our community, there are several restrictions for girls who should be married off at a young age,” Anu Prashobhini told “Open Digest”.
To participate in the fitness model contest in 2021, Anu Prashobhini had to undergo strict physical training and personality development coaching. “I used to run for two kilometres every day and do regular exercise. I still maintain that fitness level. After completing my studies, I need to get into modelling and acting,” Anu Prashobhini said, adding that there are other young girls in her community who want to explore the world breaking free from the restrictions and she hopes that her attempt would instil confidence in them.
Her father Palaniswamy, who has acted in the hit movie “AK Ayyappanum Koshiyum”, says that the family will support her in chasing her dreams. Anu Prashobhini already has nearly 6k followers on her YouTube channel “Attappadykaari”.
