Don’t mess with women of this panchayat in Kerala as they are all trained in self-defence techniques to deal with those who misbehave with them. In a first, Amballoor grama panchayat in Kerala has launched a self-defence training programme to ensure that all woman in the panchayat learn self-defence techniques to deal with situations of violence.

The programme is being implemented by the panchayat in association with the Gender Resource Center. Panchayat officials said the project was being implemented with the aim of empowering women to defend themselves without weapons, gain legal knowledge and build self-confidence when faced with any kind of violence.

The training program is organised for women in the age group of 20 to 50 years in the panchayat. Officials said 500 women are being provided training in five batches. The training is given by Aluva Women’s Cell Senior Police Officers K O Rosa, M K Sindhu, M M Ambili and K N Bigi.
