Yes, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the emerging technology and Kerala is exploring the possibility of deploying AI  in 25 government services ranging from traffic management to temple crowd control, livestock health and hospital management.

Kerala government in coordination with Kerala Startup Mission has called for a discussion with tech startups in the state to explore the possibility of deploying AI in different government services to streamline the functioning and increase the efficiency in delivering the services to the people.

As per the details, the Kerala Startup Mission in collaboration with Kerala State IT Mission, organised a one-day workshop on ‘AI in Governance’ for government departments on June 12 in Thiruvananthapuram for the startups to learn about the different government services where AI can be deployed.

“We are looking at utilising the AI technology to further enhance the delivery of services to the people. The government has initially identified 25 sectors where AI can be utilised for better efficiency. The startups will be asked to submit an application evincing their interest in each service. A core committee of experts will evaluate each application and work in coordination with the selected startup for deploying the AI technology,” said a senior official of Kerala State IT Mission.

Already, Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE) is spearheading AI in several projects in livestock disease control, where AI tools are being tested for early detection and outbreak control in cattle.

Kerala Police have already started testing AI‑driven surveillance systems in temples to manage crowd density and flag unusual patterns. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, at last year’s Generative AI conclave, emphasised Kerala’s “strategic move” to become India’s AI‑hub—noting applications in tourism, health, climate resilience and animal‑conflict warning systems.

According to an official document, the list of services identified for AI deployment are:
