For the benefit of thousands of patients in Uttar Pradesh, the Institute of Applied Dermatology (IAD) in Kasaragod, Kerala has opened a new treatment centre at Kanpur for offering its surgery-free integrated treatment for lymphedema and lymphatic filariasis.
Institute of Applied Dermatology (IAD) founder-director Dr S R Narahari said the new centre was opened at Kanpur following the demand from patients in Uttar Pradesh. “We have been operating centres in Varanasi and Lucknow for the last two years under a project funded by BMGF. But we had to shut down their operations following the closure of the project. However, patients started demanding that we continue our operations in Uttar Pradesh for their convenience. So we decided to set up a centre at Kanpur for their benefit,” he added.
The new centre was recently inaugurated by Dr Bhupendra Tripathi, Deputy Director – Infectious Diseases and Vaccine Delivery, Gates Foundation, New Delhi, in the presence of Prof. Vishnu Bhat, Director, IAD, and Former Director of JIPMER, Puducherry, Dr. Galib, Associate Professor, All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, and Anish Ramachandran, Director, IAD, and Director, One Billion Lives Foundation.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Bhupendra Tripathi said the surgery-free integrated medicine developed by IAD has been a game changer in the treatment of lymphedema and lymphatic filariasis. “Thousands of patients have so far benefited from IAD’s integrated treatment. The treatment should be included in the Ayushman Bharat initiative so that it will get the focus it deserves for the benefit of the patients who have been suffering from the most neglected tropical disease,” he added.
The new centre at Kanpur has a team of well-experienced doctors, nurses, and supporting staff to offer world-class integrated treatment for lymphedema and lymphatic filariasis patients.
The Institute of Applied Dermatology, a not-for-profit institute established in 1999, is the world’s first to scientifically develop an integrated treatment protocol combining modern medicine with Ayurveda, yoga, and diet to treat the most debilitating and neglected tropical disease – lymphatic filariasis – that affects millions of people worldwide.
The treatment protocol, published in the most reputed British Journal of Dermatology (BJD), has been adopted by the Union Ministry of AYUSH as a public health programme.
IAD founder-director Dr S R Narahari has put in years of scientific research under the guidance of his mentor emeritus professor of dermatology Dr Terence J Ryan of Oxford University, United Kingdom for developing the integrated treatment.
“For the last two years, we have been working with the Ministry of AYUSH and the Government of Uttar Pradesh to treat lymphatic filariasis in Uttar Pradesh. We will continue our coordination with the Government of Uttar Pradesh to offer our integrated treatment to the lymphatic filariasis patients,” Dr Narahari added.
