To provide relief and support to people who have been displaced following the devastating landslides in Wayanad, the Kerala government has issued a call for volunteers to assist in the ongoing relief efforts. The landslides, triggered by heavy monsoon rains, have resulted in significant loss of life and property, leaving many residents displaced and in urgent need of assistance.
Over 384 people are dead and several are still missing in the tragedy, even as the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force, Kerala Fire and Rescue Force, and Kerala Police continue their search and rescue operations amidst the huge pile-up of debris at Mundakkai, Chooralmala, Attamala, and Noolpuzha in Wayanad.
“We want more people to come forward to support us in the relief operations. Those interested can fill in a Google form,” said a senior government officer.
The government’s appeal comes as part of a larger coordinated effort to ensure the swift delivery of aid and support to the affected regions. Volunteers are being sought to help with a variety of tasks, including the distribution of food and medical supplies, providing first aid, assisting with rescue and evacuation operations, and offering emotional support to those who have been impacted by the disaster.
Volunteers are encouraged to register through a Google form uploaded on the official government portal, where they will receive information on the specific needs and how they can contribute. Training sessions will be provided to ensure that volunteers are well-prepared to handle the challenges they may face.
