Kerala Police will be partnering with a tech start-up to design and implement an AI-powered Drone Video Analytics System to enhance aerial surveillance, real-time monitoring, and response capabilities for law enforcement and public safety agencies across the state.
The Cyber Division of the state police has approached Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) to select the startup for developing the next-generation surveillance platform, which will harness artificial intelligence and machine learning to analyse live and recorded video feeds from drone-mounted cameras. It will support critical functions such as crowd management, intrusion detection, vehicle and vessel tracking, and identification of suspicious behaviour. The platform will integrate drone telemetry data, including GPS location, altitude, speed, and direction, to deliver precise, location-tagged alerts.
According to a document released by the Kerala Police seeking proposals from the startups for developing the drone system, the primary objective of the project is to establish a secure, centralised system with an interactive web portal for real-time monitoring and event analysis. The solution must enable automated detection of crowd gatherings, perimeter breaches, abandoned objects, and abnormal movements. In addition, it should provide instant alerts to relevant authorities through a dashboard that displays AI overlays, event timelines, and metadata.
A senior police official said the system will be one of the most advanced ones aimed at strengthening law and order in the state. “It will provide real time data triggering alerts to identify areas where policing needs to be strengthened. A startup will be selected for developing the system which will have key features that include object detection, crowd analysis, vehicle and vessel tracking, suspicious object alerts, and behavioural anomaly recognition,” the officer added.
