Kerala to implement dairy village project in 20 more grama panchayats

To boost milk production in the state and provide self-employment opportunities to people, the Kerala government has decided to implement the “Ksheera gramam project” (dairy village project) in 20 more grama panchayats in the state.

As per an order of the state government, the project will be implemented under Commercial Dairy Milk and Milk Shed Development Programme with a total state plan outlay of Rs 12.50 crore. “The government has decided to implement the project as per the recommendation of the Director of Dairy Development Department,” said the officials.

As per the order, the maximum number of grama panchayats identified for the project was in Kollam. The project envisages providing assistance to dairy farmers of Kerala state to take up dairy farming as the main livelihood and also increase production of milk. Through the implementation of the Milk Shed Development Programme from 2021, the dairy sector has been registering steady growth in the state.
