Kerala is all set to revamp its curriculum for schools in sync with changing times and new text books will be introduced from 2024-25 academic year. The Department of General Education has taken steps for comprehensive curriculum reform considering the growth and development in the knowledge sector.
The education department has already formed focus groups to identify the key topics that need to be incorporated in the new curriculum. A district-level organising committee has been formed in all the districts under the leadership of district panchayat president and deputy director of education. School-level organising committees have also been formed under the leadership of the school PTA for ideation and discussion on the new curriculum topics.
Officials said a methodology has been adopted to develop the curriculum combining the knowledge and experiences of experts in various fields of life that include entrepreneurs, technicians, farmers and students. An official statement of the government said the state curriculum reforms will incorporate the constitutional visions such as secularism, democracy, equality of status and progressive educational perspectives without any compromise.
Considering the fact that nearly fifty per cent of students enter life after primary stage of education rather than pursuing higher studies, the government has decided to give much impetus on developing a curriculum that will focus on equipping the children with skills required to engage in their profession with confidence.
The government has also exhorted the public to submit suggestions online through the kcf.kite.kerala.gov.in platform.
As per the details, draft curriculum frameworks will be formulated on December 31, 2022 and regional level seminars and discussions based on the draft curriculum framework will be held in January 2023. The curriculum framework will be completed in February 2023 and work related to new textbooks will begin in March 2023. The new text books will be introduced from the academic year 2025-26 in all classes.
