These Kerala youngsters have emerged as pioneers in the electric vehicle (EV) charging industry by coming out with a revolutionary EV charging unit called “chargeMOD” that can be effortlessly installed anywhere, coupled with a user-friendly mobile app that facilitates seamless unit location.

From modest beginnings in 2019, their startup BPM Power Private Limited has grown rapidly now selling an impressive 3 lakh units per month in 2023 from just 300 units per month in 2019.

Hailing from diverse backgrounds but united by a shared vision, M Ramanunni, V Anoop, Advaith C and Chris Thomas, began their entrepreneurial journey after passing out from Government Engineering College, Kozhikode in 2018. They recognised the pressing need for a more convenient and accessible EV charging infrastructure considering the growing number of EV vehicles on the road.

“We saw immense opportunity in the growing EV sector as there was only limited charging options available for EV vehicle owners. So we decided to come out with a solution to it. We created an easy-to-install charging unit which is compact and could be effortlessly installed in various locations,” chargeMOD CEO M Ramanunni told “Open Digest“.

The team also further developed a mobile app, which enabled customers to effortlessly locate the nearest charging units, check availability, and even make reservations. “In 2019, we could sell a mere 300 units per month. But now we are selling an astonishing 3 lakh units per month. This shows huge potential for electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Currently, only one per cent of the vehicles are EV and if the number of vehicles goes up in the coming years, there will be a huge demand for charging stations,” Ramanunni said.

Their startup’s success showcases the power of innovation, determination, and the potential for positive change. Recently, they raised Rs 2.5 crore from Phoenix Angels in a pre-seed investment round to further accelerate their product growth. They manage over 2,000 chargers in their system holding more than 90 per cent of the market share in Kerala’s EV charging ecosystem. Some of their outstanding projects include those in partnership with Larsen & Toubro, Murugappa Group, Kerala State Electricity Board and Kochi Metro Rail Limited.
