Kerala youth’s unique farm landscaping helps grow vegetables at homes

Shyju Joseph

Shyju Joseph, from Kannur in Kerala, is a new-generation agripreneur who utilises his farming skills to set up vegetable gardens at homes and offices, helping people consume pesticide and chemical-free vegetables.

“Being the son of a farmer, I was always fascinated by farming. I decided to work on the concept of farm landscaping after realising the need for a professional service to assist people in growing pesticide and chemical-free vegetables at home,” said 39-year-old Shyju Joseph, who hails from Taliparamba in Kannur.

After analysing the soil and available area for landscaping, Shyju identifies appropriate vegetables that need to be grown, fitting aesthetically into the area. He has so far landscaped more than a thousand homes in Kerala.

“Apart from soil quality and terrain, we also analyse the availability of sunlight to select the specified crops for cultivation. We only use organic fertilisers and conduct regular follow-ups to ensure that the vegetable crops are well taken care of,” he told “Open Digest“.

Shyju also provides online consultations to his clients on how to take care of the vegetable plants. His firm also helps people earn revenue from the vegetables cultivated in the gardens. “My ultimate goal is to enable people to grow vegetables in available spaces in their homes,” he said.

Shyju says that his venture has been the main source of revenue for him for the last 18 years, and the market size is growing considerably, opening up opportunities for new players. “More than a business, it’s a mission to spread the importance of farming and how one can grow organic vegetables for their needs at home,” he added.
