All you need is just Rs 50 to enjoy the scenic beauty of Kochi from the comforts of an air-conditioned boat that glides smoothly without polluting the environment. Yes, Kochi Water Metro, the first of its kind in the country, has brought a new dimension to Kochi’s tourism enabling a tourist to cruise through the city’s backwaters consuming the scenic beauty for just Rs 50.
Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) Managing Director Loknath Behera told “Open Digest ” that the water metro has in fact changed the tourism of Kochi.
“One can enjoy the city’s backwaters and scenery just by travelling in a water metro service. The water metro service is the most affordable transport for a tourist to enjoy the scenic beauty of Kochi. Its connectivity with main tourist spots is going to become a major takeaway for any tourist visiting Kochi. The experience of Kochi water metro will create a lasting impression on the mind of a tourist. By adding more services in the due course of time, the water metro is going to totally redefine the tourism sector in the city,” he added.
While a single journey ticket fare from High Court jetty to Vypin is Rs 20, the fare for Vyttila- Kakkanad route is Rs 30. Tourists to the city feel elated over the quality of the service offered by Kochi Water Metro. While private boats charge Rs 150 to Rs 200 per passenger for a ride through Kochi backwaters, they can now enjoy the cruise in Water Metro for just Rs 50.
“It’s really comfortable to travel by water metro and enjoy the scenic beauty of Kochi. We feel safe travelling in the water metro. It’s an exhilarating experience,” said Vivek Kumar, a Chennai resident who has been to Kochi along with his family to visit Mattancherry and Fort Kochi.
While a cruise from High Court to Vypeen offers the travellers the opportunity to enjoy the iconic Marine Drive landscape, ships, boats and Vallarpadam container terminal, the cruise from Vytilla to Kakkanad offers a picturesque view of Kochi having Chinese fishing nets and green canopy along the coastline.
