Medisep turns big relief, one lakh people avail treatment worth Rs 308 crore in 6 months

The Medisep Insurance Scheme of Kerala government has turned out to be a big relief for lakhs of people in the state with over one lakh people availing the insurance for various medical treatment worth Rs 308 crore in just six months.

As per the latest data with the state government, the Medisep scheme disbursed claims worth Rs 308 crore to one lakh people in six months. Around 1,11,027 lakh have benefited from the scheme in which about 329 private hospitals in the country and 147 government sector hospitals including medical colleges are empaneled. The data released by the state government says that there has been an increase in the number of beneficiaries undergoing prescribed 1920 medical/surgical treatments and 12 organ transplants using the insurance.

The highest claim was from Kozhikode – 17,546 followed by Ernakulam – 13,636, Thiruvananthapuram – 11,150, Malappuram – 11,056, Kollam – 9,509, Kannur – 9,202, Thrissur 9,151, Kottayam – 6,961, Pathanamthitta – 6,230, Alappuzha – 4,903, Palakkad – 4,326, Idukki – 4,326, 42,462 , Kasargoda-947, Mangalore-332, Chennai- one and Coimbatore-one.

The government has decided to empanel more hospitals under Medisep and also strengthen the grievance redressal system in districts with less number of hospitals.

The Medisep was intended to provide comprehensive health insurance coverage to all serving employees of the state government including the High Court of Kerala who are covered under the existing Kerala Government Servants Medical Attendant Rules [KGSMA Rules, 1960] and pensioners. This also includes newly recruited employees and their family, part time contingent employees, part time teachers, teaching, non-teaching staff of aided schools and colleges and their family and pensioners and their spouses and family pensioners on compulsory basis, and all Civil Service officers serving under the Government of Kerala on optional basis.
