Thanks to the timely intervention of the office of District Collector in Ernakulam, six orphan children – two boys and four girls- can now go with the families which came forward to adopt them.
The families finally got the legal documents from the authorities concerned to become the legal parents of the loved ones.
Though the families decided to adopt the orphan children aged below five, the process hit hurdles due to certain technicalities. Finally, the office of the District Collector in Ernakulam intervened and used the Collector’s power vested under the amended Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act, 2015 for approving the adoption. According to the officials, this is for the first time that a district administration is giving approval for adoption for six children together.
The documents approving the adoption were handed over to the parents by Additional District Magistrate (ADM) S Shajahan after scrutinising the documents and conducting the hearing with the families that adopted the children.
Of the six children adopted, two children will soon fly to the United States as they have been adopted by families living in the US.
As per the officials, the state government has been providing all support to the families which come forward to adopt orphan children. Those who wish to adopt a child can apply at www.cara.nic.in.
