Six students emerge winners in Open Digest “News Challenge” contest

Six students emerged as winners in the “News Challenge” contest organised by Open Digest in collaboration with St Albert’s College, Kochi. The contest was sponsored by Global Educational Consultants.

The winners are Ann Saniya Gomez, Altiya Boban, Arjun A, Hasna Ziyad, Ashika Thanveer and Angel Benny. The contest, which unfolded over several weeks, saw enthusiastic participation from students of the Department of Journalism of the college. The collaboration aimed to foster a focus on uplifting and inspiring stories, aligning with Open Digest’s mission to contribute to a more optimistic media landscape.

The students showcased their skills in reporting and storytelling in the contest that highlighted the power of constructive journalism.

The winners were announced at a glittering ceremony held at the college auditorium on Monday. The certificates to the winners were distributed by St Albert’s College Chairman and Manager Rev. Dr Antony Thoppil.

In his address, Dr Antony Thoppil stressed the importance of positive journalism in shaping a more optimistic society. He urged students to continue seeking out and sharing stories that inspire positive change and contribute to a better-informed and uplifted community. The News Challenge Contest was a unique competition that encouraged journalism students to seek out and share stories that inspire, uplift, and showcase the best of humanity. It focuses on reporting positive news, ranging from heartwarming human-interest stories to impactful tales of community initiatives and innovations.
