They came to school on the last day of the academic year to collect their mark list and Transfer Certificate (TC). But ten students of Government Lower Primary School in Eloor, Kochi had an experience of their life when their teachers gave them a surprise send off that left everyone with tears and memories for a lifetime.
It is for the first time that a lower primary school in Kerala organised such a memorable send off for their fifth standard students who are leaving the school to continue their sixth standard education in an Upper Primary School. “Normally send offs are given to teachers for their long service in a school. This time we decided to give it to our dear students who are leaving the school after completing fifth standard and joining another school,” said school principal Sibi Augustine.
In a touching gesture, the teachers took their students out on a picnic to the beach and later treated them to a sumptuous meal. The day filled with laughter, fun and heartfelt goodbyes ended with students and teachers joining for a dinner before each student dropped off at their homes.
“We organised the send off after taking permission from the parents of the students. But the students weren’t told about it. We planned everything down to the last detail and were happy to see the students enjoying each moment of it,” the principal said, adding that the send off was an attempt to create a positive effect on the students. “We want to create a new positive movement by organising such a send off. School days should always remain in the mind of a student as a happy memory. It’s these experiences that are going to shape a student’s mind,” he added.
For the students, the send off gave lifelong memories for them to remember their teachers of the school with fondness and gratitude.
