This panchayat in Ernakulam, Kerala is helping people start their own ventures and have so far made 115 entrepreneurs launch their own businesses this year. Thiruvaniyoor grama panchayat has achieved the coveted distinction of promoting the highest number of entrepreneurs in the state after it decided to implement a state-wide programme launched by the industries department to promote entrepreneurs in panchayats.
From food processing units with an investment of Rs three crore to small grocery shops, the panchayat has helped many people to chase their dream of starting their own ventures. Panchayat president Prakashan C R told “Open Digest” that they conducted three camps to identify people who were willing to start their own ventures.
“Once we identified the persons, we conducted special training programmes and gave them support for processing applications for licence and loans. We also conducted loan melas for them,” he said, adding that the panchayat would continue to offer support for the projects launched by the entrepreneurs for a period of three years to ensure that they sustain in the long run. “Apart from youngsters, a lot of people in different age groups have also come forward to attend our training programmes,” he said.
Anilasree S, representative of the industries department in Thiruvaniyoor panchayat, said they could launch 115 new ventures in a span of just seven months. “Our panchayat is one of the best performing in promoting entrepreneurs. We helped all these new entrepreneurs to avail different beneficiary schemes of the government. We are processing a few more applications and a couple of more new ventures will begin functioning in the next few weeks,” she said. As per the data, 26 new ventures have come up in the construction sector, 43 in the service sector and 46 in the commercial sector.
