Karthik is a second-year diploma student of electronics engineering at Kothamangalam government polytechnic in Kerala. But the 19-year-old is now busy building a tech firm that makes different types of advanced drones. Karthik M of Mudavoor in Muvattupuzha says he learned to make the drones by watching YouTube videos in the last two years and his drones can capture high resolution visuals for 4K and HD movies.
It was after spending countless hours learning about different components, such as motors, batteries and sensors used in drones that Karthik decided to put his skills to the test and build his own drones.
“I used to watch a lot of tech YouTube videos from my school days. When I started my plus two, I focused on videos on drone making. After joining for diploma, I started making drones which I learned from watching YouTube videos. I used to watch drones with awe during my childhood days. Now YouTube has made me a drone maker,” Karthik told “Open Digest”.
Karthik says he sources the components for making the drones from an online store of a drone club. “Currently I make First Person View (FPV) drones required for movie making and for surveillance activities. My college is supporting my venture and I am planning to expand the operations of my drone making unit,” Karthik said.
Karthik currently sells his drones under the brand name “Mad Flying”. His drones are priced in the range between Rs 35,000 and Rs 1.30 lakh. “I am getting a good number of orders for drones. I also do servicing of drones of other brands,” said Karthik, whose father is an employee with a company in Edayar and mother a school teacher.
“I only use high-quality components and advanced programming for my drones which have unique features and capabilities,” he added.
Karthik’s achievement is an inspiring example of how the internet is fast spreading knowledge and anyone with dedication and hard work can chase their dreams to make a positive impact in the society.
