At a time when much is discussed about technological innovations in human healthcare, two youngsters from Kerala are revolutionizing the healthcare of livestock through an innovative machine learning device called “WeStock”. What’s more, they received an impressive investment of ₹60 lakhs after winning the confidence of investors on India’s premier business reality TV series Shark Tank India by pitching their business model.
Brainwired, a groundbreaking agritech startup founded by Romeo P. Jerard and Sreeshankar S. Nair, received ₹60 lakhs for 10 percent equity after impressing Sharks Ashneer Grover, Peyush Bansal, Namita Thapar, and Aman Gupta.
“We are really excited about winning investment from entrepreneurs like Aman Gupta. More than the funding, we are now receiving technological support and mentoring from these bright minds to further innovate our product, which is undergoing trials before the official launch,” Sreeshankar told Open Digest.
The idea to develop an innovative device to monitor the health of livestock in real-time came to both Sreeshankar and Romeo when they were studying engineering at a college in Ernakulam. Both Shreeshankar and Romeo hailed from agrarian families and were fully aware of the hardships faced by cattle farmers in monitoring their cattle’s health.
“We wanted to create a device that monitors the activities of livestock around the clock and uses the data to provide real-time health status. Brainwired was founded in 2018,” Sreeshankar said.
Though WeStock, a collar belt, was conceived specifically for cattle, the duo improvised the device and expanded its scope to other domestic animals like horses, pigs, camels, and even pets. “The device constantly monitors the animals’ activities, measuring body temperature and pulse. The data is then processed to analyze the animal’s health status, providing regular updates to the farmer if there are any changes in the animal’s behavior pattern,” he said.
Both Sreeshankar and Romeo are now planning to target the Middle Eastern and European markets for their device “WeStock”. “There is a huge market for our product across the globe now that we have adapted it to multiple livestock species like camels,” he added.
