Kerala government will soon formulate a policy to make Kerala a design hub of the world and various products branded “Made in Kerala” will also be launched soon.
The two major announcements were made by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Industries Minister P Rajeev respectively while addressing the inauguration of Kochi Design Week organised by Kerala Startup Mission here today.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said a design policy for Kerala will be formulated with the support of experts to make the state a design hub of the world. “The future of the country lies in a creative economy. This requires a comprehensive design policy. The design policy will be formulated with the support of national and international experts participating in Kochi Design Week. Efforts are being made to make Kerala the design capital of the country. Kerala has the talent, the best environment and the best socio-cultural conditions for it,” the Chief Minister said
Industries Minister P Rajeev said that the government will soon launch the “Made in Kerala” brand as an asset to the design sector. “Unique products of Kerala like coconut oil, cashew and coir will be introduced under this brand,” he said adding that the government’s e-commerce platform will be utilised to sell the “Made in Kerala” brand.
World Design Council President Paula Gazzard, World Design Council Member Pradyumna Vyas, Infosys Co-Founder S D Shibulal and Kerala Startup Mission C E O Anoop Ambika also spoke on the occasion. The Kochi Design Week will discuss topics on potential of design in Kerala, the design future of Kochi, the untapped international potential of the Malayalam film industry.
