Kerala cooperation department is going to follow the footsteps of e-commerce majors to sell all the products manufactured by cooperative units in the state under a single brand name. The move is aimed at finding national and international markets for the products by giving it a single brand name with a common trademark.
Officials said the products will be marketed under the brand name ‘Co-op Kerala’ and in the first phase, 28 products from 12 cooperative groups have been selected for branding and marketing. Apart from establishing an e-commerce platform for selling the branded products, the department will also set up a chain of retail outlets across the state to offer quality products at affordable prices. The government will also explore the possibility of opening an export hub which will be managed by the Department of Cooperation.
Minister of Cooperation V N Vasavan recently told the assembly that the government was aiming to find an international market for the products made by units under the cooperative sector in the state through Co-op Kerala. “We are also planning to launch an export – oriented vertical for the products,” he said.
On a pilot basis, 14 retail outlets ‘Co-op Marts’ have been opened across Kerala. “Steps are being taken to launch 14 more outlets. Further, the government is on a mission to identify primary agriculture cooperative societies interested in opening ‘Co-op Marts’. In the first phase, 200 Co-op Marts will be set up in the state,” the officials said.
