Global IT major IBM will expand its operations in Kochi and is planning to increase intake of freshers from colleges in Kerala. IBM Senior Vice President Dinesh Nirmal discussed the company’s expansion plans with Industries Minister P Rajeev at a meeting here. Dinesh said the company has already hired 750 people within eight months of operations at Infopark in Kochi.
Industries Minister P Rajeev has assured all necessary support to IBM. According to an official statement, IBM has communicated that they are fully satisfied with the working environment in Kerala and the company is getting students with required skills from the campuses in Kerala.
IBM’s Kochi facility is currently handling several global projects and Dinesh Nirmal stated that Kerala will emerge as one of the main operational centres for IBM in the future. IBM has also expressed its readiness to provide necessary skill development training to students studying in the colleges in the state. IBM plans to further collaborate with Cusat, APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University and Digital University Kerala.
IBM started its new development center in Kochi in September 2022. Rajeev said IBM’s development of innovative products in the field of intelligence and security will give a big boost to the state’s IT/IT allied industry sector. He said the presence of companies like IBM will help in attracting more companies to Kerala.
