Kerala is looking forward to an investment of Rs 1000 crore from food processing companies at the Mega Food Park set up by Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) at Pallippuram near Cherthala.
According to officials, several companies had already set up their units in the park which has all state-of-the-art facilities right from cold storage, deep freezer, deboning centre, waste treatment plant to warehousing.
Industries Minister P Rajeev said the park will be officially inaugurated on April 11 and the government is targeting an investment of Rs 1000 crore which will generate over 3000 jobs. “The park is a major leap forward in the food processing sector. Several companies have already registered for setting up their units in the park, which is being built on 84 acres at a cost of Rs 128.5 crore,” the Minister said in a FB post. “Focusing on the seafood processing sector, the innovative park built by KSIDC is expected to bring about a big change in the food processing sector in Kerala,” he said.
As per the details available, of the 31 companies which have been allotted space in the park, 12 have started operations providing employment to 600 people. “The work on the second phase of the project in an area of 16 acres is progressing. The park primarily caters to the seafood processing units and the government is also setting up primary processing centres at Thoppumpady, Vypeen and Munambam for the convenience of the companies operating in this vertical,” the officials added.
