In a significant development to help farmers reduce their power cost, Keltron has come out with an innovative solar power controller specifically designed for water pumps used for agricultural purposes.
The controller, developed by the Research and Development wing of Keltron at its Karakulam unit, is an eco-friendly and cost-effective alternative to traditional energy sources. Industries Minister P Rajeev, in a Facebook post, said the new product from Keltron marks a new era in sustainable agriculture.
“The product has immense market potential in the country. Keltron has completed all the required tests of the product and the process is on for getting final approval to launch it in the market,” Rajeev said.
The solar power unit can be used to power water pumps of one horsepower to10 hp. The unit harnesses solar energy and converts it into electricity to power water pumps used for irrigation and other farming operations. The state public sector undertaking expects that the breakthrough technology will eliminate dependency on conventional power grids and fossil fuels significantly reducing operational costs for farmers.
Experts are of the opinion that the farming sector should switch to solar power for all farming requirements as it will help the farmers to cut down energy costs. “The new product offers an efficient and reliable power solution to the farming needs. The controller ensures a consistent power supply even during low sunlight conditions guaranteeing uninterrupted irrigation,” said an officer.
Officials with the state agricultural department said the farmers can significantly reduce their electricity bills and operational expenses by adopting the solar power unit. The government is likely to formulate a subsidy scheme under a green project for the farmers who want to buy the controller.
