KOCHI: Kochi city and its immediate suburbs will witness a slew of major infrastructure projects bringing in more investment for economic growth. The Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) has decided to prepare a comprehensive master plan for infrastructure development.
The GCDA will soon organize a National Urban Conclave with the support of various urban development bodies to chalk out an action plan and it will be attended by. Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, NITI Aayog CEO Parameshwaran Iyer and industry experts. In a recently held press conference, GCDA chairman K Chandranpillai had detailed the mission for chalking out the master plan for overall infrastructure development.
He said an economic city would be developed along with the proposed ring road (an eight-lane road) for which the GCDA is in discussion with National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for implementing it. The GCDA is also aiming at an expansion project of the iconic Marine Drive in the city. The Authority has already started working on solving complexities that include Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) rules to give a push to the Marine Drive expansion project.
Apart from a slew of infra projects, a master plan for sewage handling and treatment will also be finalised by GCDA which will also act as a major agency for waste management. The urban conclave would discuss the projects focusing on parking projects and IT sector development.
Kochi corporation, Cochin Smart Mission Ltd (CSML), Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) and Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) will also associate with GCDA in finalising the mega projects for Kochi.
