Startup City to empower SC/ST youth in Kerala to launch their own ventures

To promote entrepreneurship among young individuals in Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities, Kerala government has unveiled a “Startup City” initiative. This groundbreaking project to be implemented by Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) and Unnathi aims to empower youngsters from the SC/ST communities to establish their own entrepreneurial ventures, sparking both economic growth and social transformation.

According to officials, Startup City marks a significant step towards addressing the economic disparities that persist in underserved communities. Through a comprehensive approach that encompasses education, mentorship, and financial support, the project seeks to unleash the untapped potential of young minds.

“Incubation facilities and support will be provided to entrepreneurs from disadvantaged groups in sectors such as IT, electronics, agriculture, tourism, and public services. Startup City will help develop better workspaces, high-speed internet connectivity, and facilities for a productive work environment,” said an official statement.

At the heart of the initiative are tailored workshops and training sessions designed to equip participants with the necessary skills to conceptualise, develop, and manage their businesses. Accomplished entrepreneurs and industry experts will serve as mentors, guiding the budding business owners through the intricacies of entrepreneurship. Moreover, financial support packages will be provided to selected candidates, alleviating the initial capital burden that often stifles entrepreneurial ambitions.

“Startup City will not only contribute to economic development but also have a lasting impact on the social fabric of these communities. By providing youngsters with a viable alternative to traditional employment, the initiative aims to reduce unemployment rates and inspire others to follow suit. Furthermore, the success stories emerging from the initiative are expected to serve as role models, encouraging more individuals to explore entrepreneurship as a means to achieve financial independence,” the officials said.
