In a big relief to lakhs of students who avail concessions for travel in private buses, Kerala is going to implement an Online Student Concession Management System enabling the students to easily avail concessions without physically visiting the regional transport offices in the state.
Already, Kerala State Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has implemented an online concession processing system for students availing concessions for travelling in KSRTC buses in the state.
Kerala has decided to implement the online application system for concessions in private buses considering the need to bring in a transparent system for the benefit of the students who face harassment from private bus operators who enjoy monopoly on certain routes in the state.
As per the official details, Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) has initiated procedures to implement the Online Student Concession Management System. The new system is aimed at completely doing away with the current manual system and introducing an online system for streamlining the entire process of issuing concessions to the students.
“At present, applications from the schools/colleges are submitted to RTOs concerned and the concessions are issued physically. We don’t have any proper data on the number of students or the educational institutions. By implementing an online system, a fool proof process will be in place to process the applications fast without any discrepancies,” said a senior MVD officer.
The MVD has approached Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) to zero in on a startup to build the Online Student Concession Management System. The KSUM has called for Expression of Interest (EoI) from Kerala-based startups for developing the system which will have essential features like user registration, online application submission with provision to upload documents, and application tracking with status updates and notifications through email/SMS.
