As part of its efforts to promote Caravan tourism in the state, Kerala is developing a user-friendly mobile and web application that will not only enhance the experience of tourists who opt to explore the state in a caravan but also allow the public to identify and contribute details about new trails and unexplored locations.

The Department of Tourism has started working with Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) to develop the digital interface with the help of a startup.

“There are a lot of scenic trails and locations in Kerala which are still unexplored and only known to local residents. Through this digital initiative, we aim to enable local residents and tourists to submit the details of such trails and routes so that they can be explored by more tourists,” said a senior official of the Department of Tourism.

The application will offer an intuitive and engaging user experience across multiple platforms (iOS, Android, and Web). The interactive platform will showcase the state’s natural beauty while offering a seamless experience for tourists seeking adventure and exploration in Kerala’s diverse landscapes.

According to an official document outlining the details of the project, the app will include an interactive map interface that highlights caravan parks and trails, offering detailed information on available facilities. Users will be able to submit potential trail locations via the app, complete with photos, GPS coordinates, and descriptions. To ensure accuracy, an admin panel will review and approve all submissions.

It will also feature a booking system that allows tourists to reserve caravans and other facilities in real-time. This will include updates on availability and instant booking confirmations, enhancing the convenience of planning a caravan journey in Kerala.

In addition to enabling easy trail creation and management, the platform will also map out facilities along each route, such as rest stops, dining options, and emergency services. This feature will be crowd-sourced, ensuring that locals and visitors can contribute to an enriched and authentic caravan tourism experience. With a focus on community engagement, the app will feature location ratings, user comments, and feedback systems, making it a dynamic space for both locals and tourists to share their experiences and discoveries.

“This initiative will set new benchmarks for caravan tourism, making Kerala a preferred destination for adventurers and nature lovers alike,” the official said.
