Kerala’s public sector healthcare continues to excel in quality healthcare delivery, with a total of 255 health institutions in the state now accredited by the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS).

According to the latest data released by the state government, Fort Kochi Taluk Hospital in Ernakulam and Vaikom Taluk Hospital in Kottayam were recently added to the NQAS list for their improved infrastructure and quality healthcare services. Currently, the state has eight district hospitals, eight taluk hospitals, 13 community health centres, 46 urban family health centres, 163 family health centres, and 17 public health centres accredited under NQAS.

Senior officials from the state health department said that Vaikom Taluk Hospital in Kottayam has also received LaQshya certification for its operation theatre and labour room, ensuring better care for pregnant women.

As part of the incentive program, Family Health Centres and Urban Primary Health Centres with NQAS accreditation will receive Rs two lakh annually, Community Health Centres will receive Rs 18,000 per package, and other hospitals will receive Rs 10,000 per bed.

The LaQshya Accreditation Program is being implemented to improve the quality of maternal and child care, reduce mortality rates, and ensure better services for pregnant women and newborns at delivery points in government hospitals. So far, 16 hospitals in the state have received LaQshya certification, including three medical colleges, nine district hospitals, and four taluk hospitals.
