Life has never been easy for 27-year-old Theertha Sarvika of Kerala ever since publicly embracing her true gender identity during school days. An engineer by profession now, this trans woman faced countless challenges and discrimination on her journey to self-acceptance. Now after winning the title ‘Curvy Universe Trans 2023’ representing India in Miss Universe Trans Queen contest held in Delhi, Theertha is on a mission to help other people in the trans gender community to shed all inhibitions and walk the ramp as a pride trans woman.

“This is just the beginning of my journey as a professional Curvy Universe Trans title holder and I am determined to make a positive impact in the society,” Theertha told “Open Digest”.

Hailing from a middle-class family in Kochi, Theertha completed the gender reassignment surgery in 2021 and within a short span of time Theertha has overcome the adversity and is now climbing the ladder of success. “I am honoured to be a part of this incredible community and to influence and inspire others to embrace their curves and celebrate their uniqueness,” Theertha said.

Theertha aspires to use the title to make a difference in the society that still stigmatise transgenders. “I am determined to make a positive impact by working for the civil rights of LGBTQ+ community. I will be soon launching a programme to train all the newcomers of all categories to participate in these international competitions. A grooming camp will be conducted to identify talents in our community and help them come up in life,” Theertha said.

As international contests of this sort really help to boost the confidence of the participants, Theertha feels that grooming plays a significant role in outfit selection, accessories and wardrobe placement. “My workshop will help the participants to increase their confidence and live a confident life openly claiming their gender identity,” Theertha added.
