Centre praises Kerala’s “Year of Enterprises” scheme as best practice

Kerala’s “Year of Enterprises” scheme, launched to promote new businesses in the state, has won national recognition with the Union Government acknowledging it as one of the best practices in the country. The scheme was lauded for its success at the national conference of State Chief Secretaries presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

According to Industries Minister P Rajeev, the Central government presented the Entrepreneurial Year scheme of the Industries Department of Kerala as the best practice in the country. The three-day conference was attended by  Chief Secretary from Kerala V P Joy, Additional Chief Secretary  K R Jyothilal, Secretary of Industries Department Suman Billa and Health and Family Welfare Department Secretary Tinku Biswal.

“This is the first time in the history of Kerala that one lakh enterprises have been created in one year.The scheme was launched by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The project, which started in April, was completed by November itself,” Rajeev wrote in an FB post.

“The scheme has been successful on may fronts as it created record number of new enterprises in Kerala in a short time, witnessed more number of women entering into entrepreneurship,” the Minister said adding that over two lakh jobs were created through

1,01,353 new enterprises that brought in an investment of Rs 6282 crore in eight months.

The highest number of enterprises were launched in Malappuram and Ernakulam districts. While 40622 people were employed in the agriculture and food processing sector during this period, 22312 jobs were created in the garments and textile sector.
