e-Sanjeevani tele-medicine platform of Kerala Health Department is turning out to be a huge relief for lakhs of people living in the state. Ever since its launch in 2021, the platform functioning as a hub-and-spoke model has served 1.02 lakh people so far.

Health officials said people have been able to access super-specialty care from nearby government hospitals without traveling to medical college hospitals. While district and general hospitals provide speciality care services, the medical college hospitals offer super-speciality care.

As part of the project, the medical colleges and general hospitals are acting as “hubs” while family and urban health centres function as the ‘spokes’. An official statement said doctors in family/urban health centres refer the patients for speciality/super-speciality care, if required, after the initial examination at family and urban health centres.

e-Sanjeevani has conducted over 4.88 lakh consultations through its outpatient (OP) clinics so far, wherein patients can speak to their doctors on a video call, and get medicines or lab investigations prescribed. After the online consultation, one can immediately download the prescription, buy the medicines, get the tests done and continue to seek services. The platform also enables palliative care staff, hope workers and staff nurses who make home visits to provide doctor services to patients through a doctor-to-doctor system.

The services can be accessed through the esanjeevaniopd.in/kerala portal or through the e-Sanjeevani app. For details, contact DISHA – 104/1056.
