In the last 24 years, Institute of Applied Dermatology (IAD) in Kasargod, Kerala has emerged as a beacon of hope for thousands of patients who have long suffered from debilitating conditions like lymphatic filariasis, lymphedema and various chronic skin diseases.
Since its inception in July, 1999, the Institute of Applied Dermatology (IAD), a not-for-profit organisation, under its director and founder Dr S R Narahari has successfully treated thousands of patients suffering from lymphatic filariasis, lymphedema and various chronic skin diseases.
It’s the unwavering commitment and years of research of Dr S R Narahari, an allopathic dermatologist, that paved way for Institute of Applied Dermatology (IAD) to develop an effective integrative medicine combining allopathy, yoga and ayurveda to successfully treat lymphatic filariasis, lymphedema, and various chronic skin diseases. Dr S R Narahari embarked on his journey in 1999 after he witnessed the lives of those afflicted by challenging health conditions due to lymphatic filariasis.
“As a dermatologist, I have been treating patients suffering from different skin diseases. But what really touched me was the patients suffering from elephantiasis as the was no proper treatment for it. So I decided to conduct a research on a different level to find a solution for it. Through rigorous research under my mentor emeritus professor of dermatology Dr Terence J Ryan of Oxford University, United Kingdom, we could develop an integrative medicine combining modern medicine and traditional therapies. This holistic approach not only alleviated the physical symptoms but also enhanced the overall well-being of the patients,” Dr Narahari told “Open Digest“.
The treatment protocol at the Institute of Applied Dermatology (IAD) addresses the root causes of the diseases rather than merely suppressing the symptoms helping patients experience long-lasting relief and improved quality of life. The institute’s compassionate and dedicated team of healthcare professionals works tirelessly to ensure that patients receive the best possible care. They offer support, guidance, and encouragement throughout the treatment journey, fostering a sense of trust and security in their patients.
With the institute’s reputation for delivering exceptional results grew, major organisations like Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) came forward to partner with IAD to offer free lymphatic filariasis and lymphedema treatment to patients in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar states. Over the span of 24 years, thousands of patients who had lost hope in finding a cure for their chronic conditions, found solace in the institute’s integrative medicine that offered a glimmer of light in their darkest days.
As it continues to impact the lives of thousands, the Institute of Applied Dermatology (IAD) remains committed to its mission of providing health, happiness, and a new lease of life to countless number of patients.
