Kerala in association with Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK) is analysing what kind of jobs youngsters from the state can get in the global employment market. The study by Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK) will analyse the global employment opportunities for youth from Kerala especially in the wake of changing trends in the job market in the post-COVID era.

The IIMK has undertaken such a study after NORKA Roots signed an agreement with the premier management institute in September 2022 for the same. The state government has directed IIMK to submit the study report in the 2023-2024 fiscal itself. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan updated the status on the study being conducted by the IIMK while replying to questions recently in the assembly.

He said the government has directed the IIMK to submit the study report this financial year itself. He said the NORKA Roots has also implemented Skill Upgradation & Re-Integration Programme to improve the employability of youngsters, upgrade their skills to match international standards and enable them to face the emerging challenges in the job market both in India and abroad.

“For candidates with specific technical skill sets and eligibility, special courses are introduced to help them find jobs in foreign countries more easily,” he said.

As the demand for nurses has increased in West Asian countries, the government has also started a special training for nursing candidates for clearing the government licensing exams in respective countries with the support of Nursing Institute for Career Enhancement (NICE), an institute under the Kerala Academy for Skills Excellence.

Apart from this, a language training programme is also being run for the nurses. German language training for 200 nurses selected for Germany in March 2022 was recently completed and in the second phase, training classes for the first batch of another 200 nurses selected for Germany in November 2022 has commenced. The third phase selection process will be conducted in April 2023. The government is also planning to conduct a job fair for recruitment of nurses to the United Kingdom (UK) soon.
