In a major boost to IT infrastructure and employment prospects in Kerala, Infopark Kochi is set to expand with the addition of a third World Trade Center (WTC) tower. A land lease agreement was signed today between the IT Park and Bengaluru-based real estate firm Brigade Enterprises to develop the new building complex.
The Rs 150 crore project will see Brigade Group constructing a 16-story tower with a built-up area of 2.6 lakh square feet on a non-SEZ plot within Infopark. The tower, which will include six decks of car parking, is expected to generate around 2,700 direct jobs upon completion in three years.
The agreement was formally signed in the presence of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Industries Minister P. Rajeeve, Chief Secretary Dr. V Venu, IT Secretary Dr Rathan U Kelkar, Infopark CEO Susanth Kurunthil, Brigade Group Executive Chairman M R Jaishankar and Joint Managing Director Nirupa Shankar.
Highlighting the IT sector’s growth in the state, Chief Minister Vijayan noted that 583 new companies have set up offices in Infopark since 2016, generating around 70,000 jobs. “The coming up of the third WTC tower will further augment the development of Infopark and the entire IT industry in Kerala,” he said.
Infopark CEO Kurunthil pointed to the increasing demand for non-SEZ office spaces, which the new WTC tower aims to meet. “This new workspace will be a major attraction for big companies looking to expand or set up base in Kerala,” he added.
For Brigade Group, the WTC Kochi expansion marks their growing presence in the state. “We are happy to increase our footprint in Kerala with this new WTC tower catering to the booming IT/ITeS sector. Brigade is keen on further expanding in Kerala,” said Jaishankar.
