Kerala has made another major stride in delivering quality healthcare to the public by establishing a state-of-the-art stroke unit at Thiruvananthapuram medical college.
As per the details, the comprehensive stroke unit comprises a neuro cath lab, a stroke ICU and a CT angiogram. Health department officials said the stroke unit would be under the Department of Neurology offering the best healthcare services to the public at an affordable rate.
“The Department of Neurology operates the stroke unit, which is equipped with modern facilities for stroke treatment, including a CT angiogram cath lab. The unit has a 14-bed Stroke ICU, established at a cost of Rs. 0.97 crores. Step-down and high-care beds have also been installed for stroke treatment,” an official statement said.
The CT angiogram machine which has been installed at a cost of Rs 4.4 crore, will analyse and study brain diseases as well as the structure of cerebral arteries. “ The CT angiogram will enable accurate diagnosis of patients. A neuro cath lab established at a cost of Rs 5.15 crore will help diagnose and treat blood vessel disorders in the brain,” the officials said.
