To compete with multinational food companies in the market, Kerala will soon roll out produce of local farmers in attractive packages ensuring quality and freshness. The Kerala government has signed a memorandum of agreement with Mumbai-based Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) to bring the local produce of the state’s farmers to the market in attractive packages.
The agreement was signed by the senior officials of Kerala Agriculture Department in the presence of Agriculture Minister P Prasad.
According to the officials, the IIP will develop packaging for the produce of the farmers to ensure that the products stay fresh and adhere to all quality standards. “We are aiming to deliver top quality products to the people in the market. After expanding in the local market, the government is looking at the export markets,” said a senior officer.
The decision to introduce the farm produce in professional packages was taken after the government decided to launch an e-commerce platform called “Kerala Agro” to help farmers and agri-startups to find markets for their products globally.
