Kerala has initiated steps to develop Kumarakom and Beypore after the two tourist destinations in the state were included by the Union Government in Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme.
As per the latest details, the Union Government has included Kumarakom and Beypore from Kerala in the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 to develop the two places under the new tourism destination management policy. Kerala Tourism department officials said a process has been initiated to enter into an agreement with a private consultancy firm to execute the project for developing Beypore and Kumarakom under ‘Swadesh Darshan 2.0’ Scheme.
“Under Swadesh Darshan 2.0 Scheme, the Union Government has included Kumarakom and Beypore from Kerala among other selected destinations from across the country. The new scheme focuses on tourism projects based on destination management. The Union Government will sanction several projects to develop Kumarakom and Beypore as sustainable and responsible destinations under the scheme, which was launched in January this year,” said a senior tourism official.
While the projects in Kumarakom will focus on farming and village life experience, Beypore will be highlighted as a destination known for its traditional ship building and fishing. The project aims to create a wholesome experience for the tourists.
Under the scheme, the Ministry of Tourism provides financial assistance to states and Union territories for the development of tourism infrastructure. In an order issued on June 16, the Kerala government has accorded sanction to the Director, Department of Tourism to execute an agreement with INI Design Studio Private Limited, Project Development and Management Consultant (PDMC) for the State of Kerala, as prescribed by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, for the development of Kumarakom (Kottayam) and Beypore (Kozhikode) under Swadesh Darshan 2.0 Scheme.
